Choosing a good cricket bat

by Nathan on August 28, 2008

I found this video from Australian junior cricket coach Mike Pawley who shows you how to choose a good cricket bat. What to look out for and how much you need to spend to get a good bat that will hit the ball further.

I know when I bought my bat it took me ages to choose, you just cnt tell how they are going to play until you start, but in the end I made a pretty good choice. I am looking at some new bats now for next season; the Newbery bats look nice,  but I still looking. I will do a review on my bat when I get it so look out for that.

You’re wrong. …
You’re wrong. Kashmir willow is harder than English willow but when fully knocked in, the English willow bat has a harder surface. Basically EW compresses a lot more.

spring is …
spring is determined by trying a few different bats and seeing which one has a nice sweet spot.
bleaching does not affect the bat, it is purely cosmetic.
best bat is an individual thing, grab a few and see how they feel.
best bat company, hard to say but wormwood seem to produce bats that last well.

I always thought that there was another name for the cricket bat other than just a ‘bat.’ Am I wrong on this?
